Ano Mera is a beautiful and picturesque village, located 8 km. away from the Country. It is the most populated and oldest settlement and is the second largest village of the island. It consists of scattered white houses, centered on the monastery and the church of Panagia Tourliani. On the hill opposite the village you can see the remains of the Byzantine castle and many ancient Greek tombs.
